Manny Toledo – A Lifelong Ambassador of the Beautiful Game
Born in the Azores, Portugal and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Manny Toledo discovered his passion for soccer barefoot on the beaches and streets of Rio. His early love for the game evolved through playing soccer, Futsal, and team handball at the prestigious Sport Club Mackenzie.
After moving to California, Manny continued his playing career with several semi-professional soccer clubs, including Tulare Angrense AC, Artesia DES FC, Chino DES FC, and Vasco da Gama FC. His transition into coaching was a natural progression, fueled by his deep knowledge and love for the sport.
Manny made a significant impact at the high school and collegiate levels, coaching both boys’ and girls’ soccer and futsal programs at Brea High School, Troy High School, and Cerritos College. During his tenure at Brea Olinda High School from 1981 to 1991, his varsity teams won seven Orange League championships—five of them undefeated—clinched a CIF title in 1986 and were runners-up in 1987. From 1984 to 1988, he also served on the CIF-Southern Section Soccer Advisory Committee.
From 1989 to 1997, Manny coached the CYSA Boys U14 team under the U.S. Olympic Development Program, playing a key role in identifying and nurturing young talent at the national level. He holds a National ‘C’ Coaching License from the U.S. Soccer Federation and has traveled extensively to study player development at top academies in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Portugal.
As founder and director of Toledo Soccer & Futsal Academy, Manny has hosted soccer and Futsal camps throughout Orange County—including Brea, Placentia, Fullerton, and Yorba Linda—where over 9,000 boys and girls have trained since 1987.
Renowned as a passionate, energetic, and dynamic clinician, Manny is beloved by players, coaches, and parents alike for his positive and engaging teaching style.
After 38 years at Brea Olinda High School as the Athletic Equipment Manager and Futsal Club advisor, Manny retired in 2018 and embarked on what he proudly calls an "Endless Vacation."
Still deeply connected to the game, he continues to share his knowledge and enthusiasm, mentoring youth players and promoting the joy of soccer. Manny speaks the universal language of Futebol—along with Portuguese, Spanish, and a bit of English—and lives in Placentia, California with his wife of 31 years, Julie, and their two sons, Max and Zane.
